# Unigraph

> A focused markdown editor for macOS. Plain files in your own folders, an editor that styles as you type, and AI editing suggestions that follow your writing rules, not generic style advice.

Unigraph is a Mac-only markdown editor. Your writing lives as plain markdown files on your own disk, in folders you choose — the same files Obsidian, git, or any text editor would open. The editor styles markdown in place as you type, and an optional AI layer gives you an editor's pass on selected text, calibrated to your own voice.

## What it does

- Library: add any folders as Locations and browse them in a rail. Files open and autosave in place. Images and PDFs show in the tree and open in a viewer. Drag files and folders to move them; Move to Trash is undoable.
- Open from Finder: Unigraph registers as a handler for .md, .markdown, and .txt, so a double-clicked file opens without adding its folder to the library.
- Live-styling editor: headings size up, bold and italic render, and the syntax markers fade on every line except the cursor's.
- Preview: files open in a rendered read view by default; one key toggles Edit. Task checkboxes are clickable and write back, links open in the browser, mermaid code fences render as diagrams, and the rendered page prints.
- Tables: edit markdown tables as real grids. Tab and Enter move between cells; it saves as ordinary GFM markdown.
- Slash menu: type / at the start of a line for quick inserts — headings, lists, tables, quotes, code blocks.
- AI suggestions: select text and a small toolbar offers Improve, Check rules, and copyedits (tighten, reduce by a third, simplify, or a custom instruction). Suggestions arrive in a popover with notes; nothing changes until you Apply.
- Voice calibration: a voice profile generated from your real writing samples, plus a built-in checklist of AI tics to scrub, rides along with every suggestion.
- Formats: .md, .markdown, .mdx, and .txt open as text; png, jpg, gif, svg, webp, avif, and pdf open in a viewer.
- Theming: Light, Dark, or System, across the whole app including the editor.
- Apple Writing Tools: on Apple Intelligence Macs, the system's proofread/rewrite/summarize works on any selection, on-device and token-free.

## What you need

- A Mac. Unigraph is a native macOS app.
- Optional: an Anthropic API key for the AI suggestions. The key is stored in the macOS Keychain and requests are sent by the app itself. Without a key, Unigraph is simply a fast markdown editor.
- Optional: Apple Intelligence (Apple Silicon, macOS 15.1+) for the built-in Writing Tools.

## Pricing

Unigraph isn't out yet. Pricing gets settled at release; the AI suggestions run on your own Anthropic API key, so there is no subscription either way.

## Privacy

Your files stay on your Mac. Unigraph has no server of its own and never collects your writing. When you ask for an AI suggestion, the selected passage, the paragraph around it, and your voice profile and tics checklist go to Anthropic under your own API key, sent by the app itself. Writing samples are sent once, when the profile is generated. The key is stored in the macOS Keychain and never reaches a web page.
